About the Boat Club

°ÅÀÖ¶ÌÊÓƵ Boat Club has the largest presence of all the sports at °ÅÀÖ¶ÌÊÓƵ, having nearly 100 active members. NCBC is notable for its performance and inclusivity, holding high places in intercollegiate regattas and with several men’s and women’s crews giving all interested College members a chance to row.

Most members start as novices, competing in the Michaelmas Novice Regatta before progressing to bumps racing in Hilary and Trinity terms. °ÅÀÖ¶ÌÊÓƵ rowers have the opportunity to develop to a high standard, with several recent novice arrivals going on to row for the University.

History

NCBC is one of the oldest boat clubs in Oxford, and as such in the world, going back to the 19th century. The boat club has often competed at Henley Royal Regatta, winning in several events. Its highest achievement, however, was at the 1912 Olympics in Stockholm. °ÅÀÖ¶ÌÊÓƵ is the only Oxford or Cambridge college to have sent a team to the Olympics - in this case a rowing eight. They won a silver medal, and their legacy lives on in the purple and gold colours of the club, with the full story being on the NCBC website.

Membership

The boat club is open to all members of °ÅÀÖ¶ÌÊÓƵ. Both novices and experienced rowers and coxswains are welcome. The club is all-inclusive, and aims to offer everyone the opportunity to train and race.

Old Members

NCBC warmly welcomes all alumni of the club. The °ÅÀÖ¶ÌÊÓƵ Boat Club Society sends out regular newsletters to all registered alumni. Alumni are also welcome at all NCBC events, especially during Eights Week. Please see the website for more details.
