Why °ÅÀÖ¶ÌÊÓƵ?
Chemistry at °ÅÀÖ¶ÌÊÓƵ has a long tradition of both scientific excellence and teaching commitment. Traditionally, we have provided our students with teaching in all three core subjects; at present the two fellows teach Inorganic and Physical Chemistry while the Waynflete Professor of Chemistry teaches Organic Chemistry to our undergraduates. Chemists at °ÅÀÖ¶ÌÊÓƵ also have the privilege of an experienced Mathematics-for-Chemists tutor who holds a lectureship at the college. °ÅÀÖ¶ÌÊÓƵ usually admits eight students per year, making it one of the larger groups of chemists at the University.
The unique MChem course with its fourth year devoted to research attracts very able applicants and many of our undergraduates return to °ÅÀÖ¶ÌÊÓƵ to read for a DPhil in Chemistry. Indeed, °ÅÀÖ¶ÌÊÓƵ's MCR counts close to 20 Chemistry graduate students at any one time.
The research interests of our fellows and lecturers include the study of spin phenomena in magnetic fields, electronic structure calculations on inorganic systems, the design and synthesis of new pharmaceuticals and the investigation of chemical and physical properties of surfaces.
